WHAT IS eduDOTS?
eduDOTS was created to empower schools in delivering consistent and robust programmes for the development of Provisionally Certified Teachers (PCT) across Aotearoa. This support also encapsulates welcoming and inducting new staff to a school.
When embarking on teaching, or moving to a new school, there are many changing factors that can often seem overwhelming! Rigorous, regular programmes - focused around supporting, celebrating and developing PCT - are essential.
Teaching is a complex career that can involve spinning many plates at one time! eduDOTS takes some of those plates out of the equation, supporting schools’ internal facilitators with meaningful, user-friendly content to make their job a little easier! These resources enhance an existing PCT Programme, can act as a blueprint to create a stronger one and are also versatile, offering further assistance to a school’s overall Induction and Mentoring Programme.
eduDOTS connects the dots of teaching: from understanding the Standards for the Teaching Profession (STP) , digesting what the Practising Teacher Criteria (PTC) looks like in action, streamlining what a PCT portfolio might look like or providing perspective at those pressure points, eduDOTS seeks to assist schools in making sure no dot is left neglected and staff feel assertive in their career choice.

“Teachers’ professional knowledge
and skill are the most important
factors for
quality education.
On this World Teachers' Day,
we call for teachers to receive strong training upfront and continuing professional development
and support.”

eduDOTS provides schools with advice, guidance, checklists and PCT programmes to alleviate internal pressure with managing resources, facilitating induction and mentoring programmes, ensuring new staff feel like their head is well-above water.
These programmes provide purposeful content, ensuring schools are exposing their PCT to 'best practice' and the Practising Teacher Criteria. Our six eduDOTS allow PCT to identify the STP in action, streamlining their evidence collation and helping PCT critically reflect on areas of their teaching that require further development.
Connecting the dots of teaching, the diverse educational contexts, and the nuances that exist in all education eco-systems is no easy task!
eduDOTS ensures that no matter what position you find yourself in, you're able to provide consistent support, meaningful reflective tasks, and support the developing professional growth of your team!
WHY SUPPORT AS A BEGINNING TEACHER IS CRUCIAL
The PPTA’s Secondary School Staffing Survey, published in May 2018, highlighted a high rate of attrition among beginning secondary teachers. Just under half leave teaching within their first five years. Fewer beginning teachers are entering the profession. These concerns were also raised in the Primary Sector, as indicated in the 'Teachers Leaving the Profession' survey published by the New Zealand Education Institute, (January 2019).
With this knowledge, and further challenges in regards to attracting new teachers and their retention, the solution exists outside of pay rises alone - the solution exists within a culture of mentorship and support.
Further support outside of a schools' internal PCT programme has been proven as an integral influencer in regards to a positive sense of wellbeing and workplace satisfaction. It is clear that PCTs also value ‘help from their collective learning community; their teaching colleagues, specialist teachers and advisors, and a workplace that genuinely wanted them to thrive as a teacher' (Cameron, Dingle and Brooking, 2007).
More can be done to ensure individuals entering the teaching profession feel supported, empowered and affirmed in their career choice. eduDOTS believes that together we can attract, support and grow our beginning teachers throughout Aotearoa.
